My experience is very limited here but Dr. Smeltzer has treated me very well and with dignity. When I gained weight and my cholesterol went up, he didn’t by any means fat shame me but told me activity and movement could help with the cholesterol. He has a very sympathetic and well rounded view of mental health and psychiatry. Not sure if he’s actually HAES but he has always put me at ease. It's never been a problem that I opt out of scales, and he has always treated me for each issue I present, never blaming my health concerns on my size or telling me I should just lose weight. Last time I went, when I requested not to be weighed, the cheerful nurse just said "whatever's clever dear! Lot's of people opt out!"
